Everything you need to know about the Nova Scotia Immigration Nominee Program

For every aspirant, Canada can seem like a dream destination. With its unlimited hospitality, healthy work environments, vibrant culture, and excellent living conditions, the country might seem like the perfect destination for people who would like to settle abroad.

Unfortunately, Canada receives thousands of immigration applications daily, out of which a select few are invited to apply for permanent residence. In such a situation, candidates must look for alternative ways to enter the country. The Nova Scotia Immigration Nominee Program is one such program where candidates can directly apply to the Nova Scotia office of immigration.

Nova Scotia is one of the most beautiful and vibrant provinces in Canada. Consisting of several groups of islands, Nova Scotia serves as a coastal retreat for many. Its capital, Halifax, is known for its high standard of living.

The Nova Scotia Nominee Program [NSNP] is very similar to the Canadian Express entry system. But with the added advantage that candidates can directly apply to the Nova Scotia Office of Immigration, The office may also select candidates from the express entry pool.

There are two main categories under the Nova Scotia Nominee Program:

  • Arranged Employment in Nova Scotia—in which candidates should have an existing job offer from a Nova Scotian company. It should also be supported by the Labour Market Impact Assessment and have a NOC skill level of 0, A, or B.

  • Through Work Experience in Opportunity Occupations: Candidates must have one full year of paid work experience in any of the opportunity occupations listed by the office of immigration. This includes some designations like "computer engineers, "human resources professionals, "database analysts," "data administrators," and much more.

Eligibility Requirements

Similar to the Canadian express entry system, candidates must meet the eligibility criteria so that they have any chance of being elected. This would include having educational documents like diplomas approved by an assessment body, a CLB score of 7, and having one year of paid work experience in the work that you are trying to apply for.

Selection System

The Nova Scotia Immigration Nominee Program also uses a points-based system, and candidates should achieve at least 67 points out of 100 to have any chance of being selected.

Points are calculated based on the following factors:

  • Age

  • Education

  • Language test scores

  • Work Experience

  • Arranged Employment in Nova Scotia

  • Adaptability

Applying candidates can get extra points if their spouses accompany them.

The processing time for NSNP applications is said to be between three and six months; selected candidates must apply for PR within six months of receiving the invitation to apply.
